I am sure we all come across with the word road safety a lot in our day to day life but the question is how many of us usually follow and implement the principles of road safety.

Road safety has become the most serious and overlooked issues in India, So my blog aim to raise awareness on Road safety measures & rules.

What is Road Safety ?

Road safety is a safety measure to reduce the risk of road accidents and road side injury because of the mistakes of people driving on the road also refers to the measures and methods used to prevent road users from being killed and injured. Road Safety Rules have been laid by the respective governments in order to ensure the safety of every road user. Traffic signals, sign boards, Seat belts, helmets, foot paths are some of the tools to ensure road safety rules & regulation.

Recently, Solution for Non Profit Consultancy conducted a webinar on Road Safety Education and Awareness to spread awareness among the people. In the Webinar They shared various key points on Road safety and how to maintain it like Practicing road safety tips, Statistics of road accident, Major reasons for an accident and Key Objectives of the program.


Road Safety Concerns -  India's Statistics

According to a report by the world bank, Statistics reveals that With only 1percent of the world's vehicles, India accounts for 11 percent of the global death in road accidents, the highest in the world.
Globally, Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs) are the eight leading cause of death.

As per the Ministry,76.2 percent of people who are killed in road crashes are in the prime working age (18- 45 years ). The Estimated Cost of a death in a road accident is around Rs.91.16 lakh. That is not all nearly 20 to 50 million people suffer from non fatal injuries, often resulting in a permanent disability.

Practicing Road Safety Tips 

  • Stick to the Speed limits
  • Keep a Driving license 
  • Wear Safety gears while driving 
  • Keep a Safe distance with the vehicle in front of you
  • Do not Drink and Drive
  • Avoid Distractions 
  • Practice Defensive Driving

Key Objectives of the Awareness Program

The Webinar aims to create awareness about the risks of rash driving with the ultimate objective of contributing to reduce fatalities and injuries related to rash driving. it tackles three key themes and focuses on 

a) Preventive Education - Impaired Driving 
b) Road Safety 
c) Positive Behavioral change- Responsible Driving 

 Conclusion :

Traffic accidents and injuries are considered a huge public health problem or we can say a man made problem.
These situation is going to be worse unless prevention strategies are adopted so everyone should strictly follow all the rules, regulations and the signs of traffic light. Children should be well practiced from the end of their parents at home and get proper education by the teacher in the School.
